Who we are
Al Widad Organization for Women and Children
Al-Widad Women and Children Organization is an independent, non-profit, women-led Iraqi civil society organization that has been working since its founding in 2009 to empower women, protect children, and advance fragile and marginalized communities in Iraq.
The organization was founded in the post-sectarian era, at a time when Iraq desperately needed a women’s voice, and has worked since its inception to support the most vulnerable groups, especially women and children, in times of crisis and conflict.
In 2014, the organization’s office in Salahuddin governorate was looted and burned by ISIS terrorist gangs, which caused the work to stop temporarily. But after the liberation, and with the determination of its staff, the organization returned strongly to the field to provide relief and support to the displaced, and continues its journey in Dhulu’iya district.
The organization obtained the official registration certificate from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers – NGO Department on 21/1/2016,registration number 1O78088.
